Climbing Three Peaks!

Yusuf Karim, Cub Scout, writes about climbing mountains…

I climbed Scafell Pike, the tallest Peak in England in 2013, with my Uncle who is a Scout Leader (978m). It was challenging and fun. So I decided to try and complete my 3 Peaks challenge by the age of 10 – this means climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. I climbed Mt Snowdon with 7th Goodmayes Scouts in July 2014 – it was 1085m high. It was a lovely warm day when we climbed but nothing could prepare me for the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis the following weekend!

At 1344m it is the tallest of the 3. It took us nearly 10 hours to ascend and descend – in foggy and freezing conditions. There was ice at the top and by the time we reached the bottom it was past maghrib – so we needed to use our torches to come down. I was really happy my dad reached the top with me.

Now that I’ve climbed Ben Nevis – I’m hoping that when I’m an Explorer Scout I will reach the top of Everest!
