n 1919, Baden-Powell started a formal system for leader training at Gilwell Park, near London.  Those who completed the course were awarded the Wood Badge.  This was not a cloth badge, but a pair of beads from the ceremonial necklace of the Zulu Chief, Dinizulu.

The Inter Troop Challenge Trophy is presented to the Scout Troop in the District who has performed the best over a series of challenges set throughout the year.  In 2014, 7th Goodmayes were the first recipients of this Trophy.  The challenges included a Night Hke, general knowledge Quiz, Cycle Cross, ten pin bowling Competition ad a Treasure Hunt. Our Scouts were not necessarily the best at any of these events but were consistent in fielding a good team in all of the events.  Hamza Ali, Boy Scout, deserves a special mention as he single handedly secured the majority of the points in the Cycle Cross event.  The Trophy was presented to our Group Scout Leader at the District AGM by the Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts.
